AORN Chapter 1016

Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2000

Meeting was called to order at 2010 by P.Stewart, President.
1. M.Norris and the Surgery Center of Ocala was thanked for hosting the
March meeting.
2. AORN information was made available for members to look at, including FCORN
Newsletter, President's Award 2000, AORN Congress report, AORN Foundation,
Parliamentary Procedure, Member Ambassador, and pre-congress survey.
3. Minutes from February 2000 meeting were approved as published in the newsletter.
4. Financial report: Checking - $5020.00 Savings $2624.83
5. Standing committee reports
A. Membership/Education - T. Macheski reported that as of 1/31/00 our
chapter has 121 members. Next meeting will be in April at AGH. Our chapter
has been approved to be an educational provider pending board approval.
Also our provider number has been changed effective with this meeting.
B. Legislative- S.Reitman-Swiss - No report
C. Research- L.Pitman - No report
D. Ways and Means - G'ville golf tournament is set for June 24, 2000 at
Haile Plantation. Registration, sponsor forms and fliers available.
Questions and information are to be directed to Camille Bergstraesser.

T-shirts will be taken to congress to be sold.
6. Special Committee Reports
A. Nominating - S.Reitman-Swiss stated committee has not met as of yet.
Offices open for nominations are: President-elect 1 yr; Treasurer 2 yr; Board
member X2 2 yrs; Nominating X2 2 yrs.
B. Historian - C.Bergstraesser - No report
C. Newsletter - Requirements for AORN 2001 Award will be in next month's
newsletter.
7. Highlights of Board Meeting read by S.Moore
8. Unfinished business
A. T-Shirts - S.Reitman-Swiss - 3 shirts sold at Surgery Center of
Ocala. B. Student nurse membership -T.Macheski stated that we would like
to see more student nurse involvement. A total of 8 names have been sent to us
stating interest in OR nursing. T.Macheski will be making contact with these
students. Fliers are available from national titled "Consider a
career in the OR as a peri-Operative nurse. Displays at student nurse congress and
sending newsletters to CFCC, SFCC and UF were suggested as ways to make
contact with other student nurses.
C. Members are encouraged to contribute to Habitat for Humanity
D. Mentoring Program - E.Hoffman - No report
E. Installation Dinner - S.Reitman-Swiss stated that it will be held at
Las Margarita's in G'ville
F. Revised by-laws were mailed to national. All members of chapter were
mailed copies of the revised by-laws
New Business
1. Chapter survey- Board has approved doing a chapter survey. Survey will
be formulated at next board meeting. Please forward suggestions for survey
to a member of the board.
2. Election Policy - T.Macheski, W.Williams and S.Moore are putting final
touches on policy
3. Scholarship Policy - P.Stewart and S.Moore will bring policy to next
board for approval
4. An AORN Standard will be highlighted in our newsletter each month.
5. At each chapter meeting job opportunities within our chapter will be
announced.
6. Opportunity will be given to members to discuss clinical issues that have
come in their facilities at each chapter meeting.
7. Of 121 chapter members, 78 are CNOR and 9 are CRNFA
8. Name and hospital of member ambassadors will be placed in newsletter.


After no further discussion the meeting was adjourned at 2110.
