Minutes of the October 16, 2006 Meeting

 

Program:  The speaker was Fadra McIntosh, ARNP. A welcome and introduction was done by President Justine Busch. Thank you to Fadra and the VA for hosting the meeting.

 

Meeting was called to order at 1930 by President.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Balance is $5830.25. $752.31 was paid to Kathy Brown for a bank error this summer. Her personal account was incorrectly debited for this amount. This amount was used to pay for items for the FCORN summer meeting.

 

Old Business: Congress updates – there is a typo in the Congress brochure related to delegates – the page number referenced should be 47 instead of 17. In addition, there are grants available for those wishing to attend Congress. Managers, students and staff may apply at AORN.org specifically http://www.aorn.org/foundation/scholarships.asp . The deadline is Feb. 9. 2007.

 

The National Board Member Speaker has been tabled due to funding.

 

Justine has a CD available with highlights of Congress in 2006 at Washington, DC. Let her know if you are interested in viewing this.

 

If anyone is interested in Specialty Assembly Committee Justine has forms for filling out.

 

November 30 is the deadline for applying to have a table at Congress to sell items. It was decided to go ahead and get a table and we can decide specifically what we will sell at the next couple of meetings. Terry will talk to TNT Graphics as everyone like the “Gator” t-shirt.

 

The Golf tournament discussion was tabled until the next meeting.

 

A discussion was held regarding “50/50” at the meetings. It was decided that this has been tried in the past but was unsuccessful as there are not enough members attending the meetings.

 

The Foundation is looking for contributions. The Foundation underwrites many of the scholarships and events we take advantage of as members of AORN.

 

Perioperative Nurses Week is November 13-17.  A discussion was held regarding “sound bites” that can be put on the radio and pre-written statements that can be put in the newspaper.

 

The next meeting will be at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala at 1830. Follow the signs to where the meeting will be held.

 

Kathy Brown will be investigating our having a family through Womens’ Services for Christmas for the Chapter. This was the social service group we collected money for last year. They provided a needy mom and kids for us to help.
