Meeting was called to order by Wes Williams, at 12:05 PM at the Olive Garden restaurant, Ocala, Florida.

PRESENT: Wes Williams, Jim Shelley, Eileen Nogueiras, Patricia Stewart, and Kathy Brown.

ABSENT Marian Norris, and Bonnie Tobias.

IN ATTENDANCE: Sally Moore, Nan Hanauer, and Tom Macheski.

QUORUM: Present.

• Chapter Officers: Wes Williams stated he would notify national of the names of the chapter officers. Names of the chapter officers are attached. The following are changes in chapter officers information: Pat Stewart-PO Box 1181, Anthony, FL 34479,Phone-427.6597, Bonnie Tobias- 3380 NE 49 ST, Ocala, FL, phone-622.3354, and Nan Hanauer- 14691 SE 99 Ave, Summerfield, FL34491, phone-288.1288.

• Committee Chairs: Wes was informed that the standing committees are appointed annually by the President with the approval of the Board.

• Calling Committee: The board has agreed to establish a calling committee for the chapter meetings. Wes Williams has agreed to call the Gainesville members. Eileen Nogueiras will notify the board members who live in the Ocala area of who they will be calling.

• Fund Raisers Approved by the Board:

Newsletter Advertisement: the newsletter will accept advertisements in the newsletter as a fundraiser. The rates for the advertisement will be business size card- $35.00, ¼ page- $75.00, ½ page- $125.00, and full page -$200.00. The ads will be in the ten published newsletters per year. Nan will include a flyer in the newsletter with this information. Nan will provide samples of the chapter newsletter to show advertisers.

Candles: Wes presented information about selling candles as a fundraiser. We will sell candles from September 19,2002 to October 17, 2002, and October 19, 2002 to November 21, 2002.The chapter will receive 20% of the sales.

Golf Tournament: Jim and Sally presented information about the chapter golf tournament. The tournament will be held on November 9, 2002 at Summer Glen, Ocala, FL. Summer Glen is charging the chapter $16.00 /person which includes a golf cart. Registration at the tournament will start at 8:00 AM with Tee Time at 9:00AM. The chapter will charge $65.00/person or $240.00/team. The chapter will provide a box lunch. The chapter’s golf tournament will be held once a year and alternate between Ocala and Gainesville.

• Mailbox Keys: Jim Shelley and Tom Macheski will return mailbox keys to the chapter at the next meeting. Wes Williams will look into the necessity of the chapter renting a PO Box.

• Congress: Tom Macheski handed out a list of chapter members and the points they earned this past year. This list will be published in the newsletter.

• FCORN: Nan Hanauer announced the chapter will be hosting the 2003 Fall FCORN meeting. The meeting will be held in Gainesville, FL at the University of Florida Hotel and Conference Center. The meeting will be held on October 17, 18, and 19, 2003.

• National: Wes announced that National would like chapters to send a Christmas ornament that represents their chapter. These ornaments will be placed on a Christmas tree, which will be outside the AORN Headquarters. Some of the items that were suggested to be included in the ornament were our chapter logo, sand, gator, manatee, horse, shell, orange, golf, and/or a horse. Eileen Nogueiras will be in charge of this project.

• OR Nurse Week: Wes announced he would like our chapter to work with the American Cancer Society during OR Nurse Week. The board approved it. Wes will be meting with the American Cancer Society next week.

• Monthly Chapter Meetings:

The chair adjourned the meeting at 2:50 PM.

PROGRAM: Dr. Brian Hann of the Neurosurgery Department of the VA in Gainesville presented on minimally invasive spine surgery.

BUSINESS MEETING: The meeting was called to order by President Wes Williams and held at the Ayers Surgery Center. Patricia Stewart, Secretary, was not in attendance. Jim Shelley was elected to take the minutes for the meeting.

QUORUM: not present: however, President Williams elected to proceed with non-voting issues.

NEW ATTENDEES: no new attendees.

MINUTES: deferred.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Eileen Nogueiras sent a correspondence to the meeting indicating the current status of funds in the treasury:

• Presentation of the Fall Golf Outing in Ocala-to be held Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Summer Glen Golf Course in Belleview, just off I-75. Jim Shelley and Sally Moore are co-chairs for this event.
• Justine Busch presented the candle fundraiser. The candles will be ordered from Peggy Valey. The first deadline for orders is October 4, 2002. Justine Busch will be available to coordinate between our various facilities: Nan Hanauer at MRMC, Sally Moore at ORMC, and Wes Williams at Shands at AGH. Justine’s phone #353. 291.1442.
• A listing of upcoming meetings was made.
• Wes Williams noted that November 10-16, 2002 is OR Nurse Week. Wes suggested that our chapter link with the American Cancer Society as a community service.
• Wes stated that a Christmas tree ornament from our chapter would be sent to AORN National for their Christmas tree. Eileen Nogueiras is making the ornament.

Tom Macheski announced that he is on the ballot for the nominating committee for AORN National.
