NOVEMBER BUSINESS MEETING

November 15, 2001

PRESENTATION: The Mayor of Ocala, Mayor E. L. Foster, presented the chapter with a plaque proclaiming the week of November 11-18 as Perioperative Nurse Week.

PROGRAM: Barbara Badger, Regent Medical, presented Latex Sensitization: Trends, Detection, Prevention and Management.

BUSINESS MEETING: was held at Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala, Florida and called to order by President Jim Shelley at 8:20PM. Jim Shelley thanked MRMC for hosting this month’s meeting.

QUORUM: was present.

NEW ATTENDEES: Jim Shelley asked anyone attending the chapter meeting for the first time to stand and be recognized. Those attending for the fist time were Barbara Walla, RN, Sean Barnard, RN, and Brenda Domen, RN, all from MRMC.

MINUTES: Minutes of the September 20,2001 and October 18, 2001 were approved as posted on the chapter’s web site.

TREASUER’S REPORT: Eileen Nogueiras, Treasurer, reported there was no activity in the account. She also stated the chapter still has t-shirts for sale. Jim Shelley gave Ms. Nogueiras a check from National in the amount of $495.00, from the quarterly membership.

• Membership/Education-Tom Macheski stated our chapter has 127 members. Tom also said that he had certificates of attendance for members. Tom asked Pat Stewart to take over handing out Contact Hour forms at the chapter meetings.

• Newsletter/Publication-Nan Hanauer asked members to contribute articles for the newsletter. The article should be submitted the week following the monthly meeting. Barbara Walla suggested that our chapter look into having advertisers for our chapter newsletter. This would be a fundraiser for our chapter. This is to be discussed at the next board meeting.

• Legislative-Nan Hanauer talked about the Florida Nurses Association working with the Florida Legislature. Jim Shelley said that HR822 has 88 sponsors. Tom Macheski stated that the FCORN and the FNA plan to go to Tallahassee on February 2, 2002.

• Historian-vacant
• Ways/Means/Finance-golf tournament moved to February 2, 2002.
• Publicity-Pat Stewart thanked Mary Buck for her help in asking Mayor Foster to our meeting for the presentation.
• Scholarship-Nan Hanauer was unable to get the information about the requirements for the scholarship.
• By-laws-Wes Williams, no report. Pat Stewart asked Tom Macheski to please make the changes to the by-laws that were voted on at the last board meeting, and to send her a copy of all the chapter policies.
• Awards-Eunice Hoffman, said that she did not get any responses from the hospitals to submit for an award at Congress. It was decided that the awards information would be put in the chapter web site.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: There was a discussion to have the golf tournament once a year and combine both Ocala and Gainesville participation.

• Jim Shelley would like to have all delegates registered by December 14, 2001. Justine Bush agreed to attend Congress as a chapter delegate.
• Our chapter will host the FCORN Seminar in Gainesville in October, 2003.
• Justine bush stated the AORN Journal needs articles.

CLINICAL ISSUES: none discussed.

PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: It was announced that the UF Department of CV surgery needs a Research Nurse. Anyone interested should contact Terry Glover at (352) 392-9392.

ADJOURNMENT: the meeting was adjourned by general consent at 9:20 PM.
