Chapter 1016 Minutes
February 15th, 2001

Educational Meeting
Pain Assessment for the peri-Operative Nurse was presented by Dr. William Moore and Dr. Stephen Pyles. The program included discussion of neurostimulator pain therapy and intrathecal pain therapy.

Business Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 2005 by President Nan Hanauer.
Surgery Center of Ocala was thanked for hosting this meeting.

The 3 visitors were welcomed and introduced - C.Slater, J. Bush, J.Pashan.

1. Minutes from January meeting were approved and seconded by S. Reitman-Swiss and E. Nogueiras.

2. Financial Report by S. Reitman-Swiss Checking 8786.29 Savings 2649.19

3. Standing Committees

A. Membership/Education - T. Macheski reported 126 members. Next meeting is at Florida Surgery Center, Gainesville. Speakers will be congress delegates with reports of congress. Meeting will be 4th Thursday, due to congress.

B. Legislative - S. Reitman-Swiss reminded members about Congressional Day in June.

C. Research- No report

D. Ways/Means/Finance - S. Reitman-Swiss reported we still have T-shirts for sale; Golf Tournament in Gainesville in spring/summer.

E. Newsletter-N. Hanauer reported it cost $42 to print last newsletter. Board has recommended that members be polled to see if they have access to a computer and can read the minutes off of chapter web page. Post cards will be mailed to members, with instructions to return with e-mail address if they want to receive it via net.

F. Executive- N. Hanauer stated that the President can appoint aspecial committee. N. Hanauer has approached the following members to serve on an Awards Committee: E.Hoffman (Chair); L.Sigsby, Frazier

G. Bylaws/Policy - J. Shelley/President Elect, changes were approved in last month's meeting. Changes will be made and copies will be printed for members and sent to national.

H. Publicity- P. Stewart reported that M. Buck and herself will be promoting peri-operative nursing to the health occupation classes at several public schools in the future.

I. Scholarship - N. Hanauer reported we have $100 in the scholarship fund. N. Hanauer will chair this committee. Plans are to increase the amount in this fund so that in the future we can fund non-delegate members that are attending congress for the first time and offer first time members free dues.

4. Special Committee Reports

1. Nominating - P. Stewart reported the following positions to be filled:
President-elect - 1 year
Secretary - 2 years
Board of Directors - 2 years
Nominating Committee X3 - 2 years
Contact P. Stewart to volunteer or to nominate a member.

2. Historian - No chair

3. Web Site - T.Glover reported Meeting minutes, locations and other information about our chapter is available on web site. E-mail corrections have been made.

5. Board of Directors - No meeting

6. Unfinished Business - Hill-Rom seminar is scheduled for May 26th at the Auxillary Building at MRMC. Other sites are being looked at in order to move it up to April if possible. Hill-Rom will furnish luncheon and speaker.

7. New Business

1. Congress 2001 - Delegates and alternates were introduced. There are several issues being presented, members are requested to read those in the January AORN Journal and contact delegates or member ambassadors and let them know your preferences.

2. Notes from National - Grassroots movement will be sending monthly e-mails to those who have signed up. This will keep membership informed of different bills, etc, that are going on nationally and in individual states.

8. Clinical Issues - Anesthesia care providers using blanket warmers without the blankets : It was suggested that the anesthesia provider be shown the statement on machines/blankets that states company will not be responsible if not used properly.

9. Professional Opportunities/Announcements - T. Macheski announced that there is a management position available in North Central Florida.

10. T. Macheski made the motion that the meeting be adjourned.
