Chapter Business Meeting Minutes

Educational Meeting
Speaker was Tom Macheski, RN. Program was titled H.P. WebCraft (It Ain't Scary)

Tom presented a brief history of how the Internet has developed from the first use by the Department of Defense in the 1960's to where it is today. He presented how to develop a web page by using who, what, where, why and how.

N. Hanauer, President, called meeting to order at 2015

  • Thank you was extended to MRMC for hosting the meeting. B. Autrey, ORMC, was recognized for attending a meeting for the first time.
  • Minutes from last meeting was tabled until next month.
  • Financial Report: S. Reitman-Swiss reported Checking $5,598.29. Savings $2,638.05.
  • Standing Committee reports:
  • Membership/Education - T. Macheski, we have 124 members as of August, 2000. N. Hanaauer will forward copy of memebership to T. Macheski. Meetings for rest of year will be: October-AGH/Ayers in Gainesville; November-ORMC in Ocala; December-TBA; January-VA, in Gainesville; February-Ocala; March 22 (date changed due to Congress); April-Ocala; May-Florida Surgical Center, in Gainesville; June-Installation Dinner, TBA.
  • Legislative - S. Reitman-Swiss,There is a proposal to allow veterans who must drive to receive benefits at a VA hospial be allowed to go to local hospitals for treatment and have it paid by VA. Chapter members are encouraged to vote in upcoming elections.
  • Research - L. Pittman, no report
  • Ways/Means/Finance - Ocala having golf tournament in October, Gainesville having one in spring. Possibly having a seminar in late winter or early spring.
  • Newsletter - N. Hanauer reported she is submitting June's newsletter to National for an award. Having a website will also give us additional points.
  • Executive - tabled until later in meeting.
  • Bylaws - tabled
  • Publicity - need volunteer for committee chair
  • Scholarship - need volunteer for committee chair
  • Special Committees
  • Nominating - P. Stewart, nothing to report at this time.
  • Historian - C. Bergstraesser has resigned. Need volunteer to fill position.
  • Website - T. Glover has updated site with new officers; has added an auxiliary site for pictures. If you have a picture of chapter functions please e-mail them to her.

    Members of the Board who were present at the meeting were introduced. Brief overview of Board Meeting held prior to chapter meeting was given by S. Moore.

  • Unfinished Business

  • A. Of the 124 sent out, 24 were returned. N. Hanauer addressed some of the comment from the surveys in her President's message, in the newsletter.
    B. T- Shirts: We still have more to sell. lease see ambassador at your facility, to get one. Also, chapter patches are still available for $5.00.
  • New Business
  • A. Golf Tournament in Ocala - E. Nogueiras/J. Shelley reported that it is scheduled for October 21st, 2000, at Summer Glen. Please help by contacting reps and doctors to play or to be a hole sponsor.
    B. President-elect duties - The board has recommended that the President-elect duties be expanded to 1) Offical greeter at chapter functions 2) Parliamentarian at chapter functions 3) Chairperson of By-Laws Committee. Because this would be a change in the By-Laws, membership is to be notified in the newsletter and a vote will be made at the next meeting.
    C. Goals 2000-2001 - N. Hanauer has set a goal of increasing membership by 5%. She also stated that national will give awards to member ambassadors, according to number of new members. New members can be "old" members who have let their membership lapse 6 or more months.
    D. AORN Foundation - Board requests that each member donate $5.00 towards the foundation and that the chapter match it with$5.00 from it's funds.
    E. Our website and FCORN's website are located on the Alachua Free-Net (AFN). AFN is currently experiencing financial difficulties. T. Glover made a recomendation that since we do not pay for our sites, that we donate $100.00. Motion was made and seconded.
  • Clinical Issues:
    T. Macheski requested if other facilities document other personnel, i.e., sales reps. Most people present responded affirmatively.
  • Professional Opportunities/Announcements:
  • CNOR and CRNFA exams will be given in written form at Congress, in Dallas. FCON will meet. in Destin October 27-29th, 2000. T. Macheski is President-elect for FCORN. Nominations being accepted for officers for FCORN.
