WINSTEAD SURNAME
Our WINSTEAD line has been well researched by others. I first found our tie to the researched WINSTEAD line on Mark and Karen Krugman's Homepage . I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw our Mandley G. WINSTEAD listed on their page. According to the research listed on their page at that time, this WINSTEAD line has been traced back to John WINSTON/WINSTONE born before 1555 in England. He died 30 Sept. 1585 in Yapton, Sussex Parrish, England (Wales).

Mandley G. WINSTEAD, born 31 Aug. 1838 in Hopkins County, Kentucky, was my gg grandfather. His father was Pleasant Bushard WINSTEAD born about 1812 in Person County, North Carolina. His daughter, Frances Wickliffe WINSTEAD's second marriage was to Jefferson Davis CLAYTON. Their 4th child was my grandmother Ona Ada CLAYTON.

Pleasant Bushard WINSTEAD was the son of Mandley WINSTEAD and his second wife Elizabeth COX. Pleasant's half sister Anna M. WINSTEAD, daughter of Mandley WINSTEAD and his first wife Elizabeth TAPP, married William YARBROUGH. Anna and William's daughter, Alcie, married Solomon C. CLAYTON Jr. Alcie and Solomon's daughter, Frances A., married John Cobb CLAYTON. Frances and John were the parents of Jefferson Davis CLAYTON. Jefferson Davis CLAYTON married Frances Wickliffe WINSTEAD. My grandmother Ona ADA CLAYTON was their 4th child.

I have a copy of the book The Descendants of Samuel Winstead (1701-1774) * Samuel III * 3, by Martha Winstead.  I am willing to do limited lookups.  Use the link below and put Winstead Book Lookup in the subject line.
