Be it Known unto all men that I Samuel Cox of the
County of Hopkins and State of Kentucky being very sick and weak though
in my proper senses doo make this my last will and testament
I doo give unto my son Merideth Cox one negro boy
named John which he has now in his possession as his first legacy
I doo give unto my daughter Pheby Harralson
one negro girl named Charity and her increase which she has now in possession
I doo give unto my son William R Cox one negro
girl which he has received
I doo give unto my son Wyatt Cox one negro girl
named Letty and her increase which he has now in possession
I doo give unto my son Pleasant Cox five hundred
dollars in money which he has received
I doo give unto the Heirs of my daughter Eliza
Winstead late wife of Manly Winstead which is by name William M and Pleasant
B and Alexander G Winstead one negro girl named Feley and one hundred and
fifty dollars in money at my wife’s death the negro is to be received at
my death
I doo give unto my son Howell Cox one negro girl
named Charity
I do give unto my son Champin Cox one negro girl
named Harriot
I doo give unto my son Paton Cox one negro girl
named Lucy
I do give unto my daughter Temperance B. Tompkins
one negro girl named Malinda
The above is to be understood to be their first
legacy
I do give unto my wife Temperance Cox all my landed
estate together with the rest any real estate all my perishable property
Household and Kitchen furniture during her life or widowhood and if she
should think proper at any to marry then she is to have the third part
of my estate during her life the rest of my property to be equally divided
between the above mentioned Heirs It is to be understood that the Heirs
of Eliza Winstead is only to have one equal shear with the rest of the
Heirs. I doo leave my wife Executrix together with my son Wyatt Cox
and Anderson Harralson Executor Given under my hand and seal this the 24th
day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
nineteen
