NORWOOD
SURNAME
Our earliest documented NORWOOD ancestor is Harvey Monroe NORWOOD born
22 June 1871 in Greenwood, South Carolina. All that we know about his parents
is that his father served in the Confederate Army.
Harvey married Cornelia Matilda CROUCH about 1895 in Saluda, South Carolina.
They had two sons in SC, Olin and Jesse Monroe. They then moved to Alton,
Lafayette County, Florida. There they had two more sons, Willis Harvey,
and William Marvin. Willis died before he was two years old. William became
my grandfather.
Harvey Monroe may have come to Florida before his family to help build
a bridge over the Suwanne River. Later after the family moved to Florida,
all the boys worked in the sawmill at Alton. The Sawmill cut lumber to
be used in Sears & Roebuck kit houses, or so my grandfather used to
say.
