SURNAME
Our
known MOORE line starts with Joseph MOORE, born 1757 in North Carolina.
It may have been Rutherford County, as they sold land there in 1889, before
going to Kentucky. Joseph married Rebecca BALLEW, born 1759 in South Carolina,
in 1784 in Kentucky. Joseph died about 1820 in Caldwell County, Kentucky.
Our direct line follows through Burt Greenberry MOORE, the seventh of Joseph
and Rebecca's children, who married Mary FRENCH 3 October 1820 in Caldwell
County. They moved to Itawamba County, Mississippi before 1834. Their son
George Washington MOORE, the sixth of ten children was born there 15 December
1834. George married Martha A. MEDLEY 01 April 1863 in Itawamba County.
Elmina Moore, the fifth of their seven children married William Jefferson
GADDY 14 September 1893 in Itawamba County and tied the MOORE line into
the GADDY line.
