We
have a Webster County, Kentucky marriage bond for Mrs. Matilda HAYS and
Issac CARTER dated 9 October 1862. She is listed as 38 years old, born
in Missouri. This is her third marriage. Matilda and Captain Isaac CARTER
are listed in the 1870 Webster County census. There are six CARTER children
listed and one HAYES stepson. All the CARTER children were born in Kentucky
while the HAYES stepson was born in Illinois.
On 30 October 1868 Matilda ? WILLIAMS HAYES CARTER wrote a note to the
Clerk of the Webster County Court giving permission for her daughter, Martha
WILLIAMS to marry Albert G. POWELL. The note was witnessed by John WILSON
