WANTED
HARVEY
MONROE NORWOOD
Greenwood
& Saluda, South Carolina - Lafayette County, Florida
Harvey
Monroe NORWOOD was born 22 June 1871 in South Carolina. Harvey married
Cornelia Matilda CROUCH, born 16 May 1871 in Saluda, South Carolina, about
1895 in Saluda. Harvey and Cornelia moved their family to Lafayette
County, Florida between 1897 and 1907. Harvey and his sons worked in a
Saw Mill in Alton, Florida. Harvey died 24 December 1938 and is buried
at Bethel Cemetery in Mayo, Florida. We have a copy of his death
certificate, it does not list his parents. Family legend says that
his father served for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
We
have found a Harvey NORWOOD, 9 years old in the 1880 Laurens County, South
Carolina census. He was listed with William NORWOOD, 37 and
Mary M., 39. Siblings listed were Joicey, 12, Maggie, 5 and Timothy,
3. They are not found in the 1900 Laurens County census.
We
could only find one William NORWOOD of about the right age in South Carolina
in the 1900 census. William T. NORWOOD, 60, is listed in the 1900
Greenwood Township, Greenwood County, South Carolina census. The
only reason we are considering this William a possibility is that my grandfather
always said that his father came from Greenwood, South Carolina.
Any information, leads or clues would be appreciated.
