CROUCH SURNAME
This is one of our success stories. With lots of help we have traced our CROUCH line back to John CROUCH born about 1750 in Virginia or North Carolina. John died June 1791 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. Our direct CROUCH line resided in the Saluda area of South Carolina until my great grandmother Cornelia Matilda CROUCH and her husband Harvey Monroe NORWOOD moved to Florida.

We started with about three lines in a one page family history written down by my younger brother as told by our grandfather. We came up with an approximate death date and ordered a death certificate from the state of Florida. Her death certificate listed her parents. We put out some queries on the appropriate South Carolina County Genweb pages and the NC-SC ROOTS genealogy list. Claude Medlin wrote us that he thought our CROUCH family was listed in the book A Documented History of The Long Family, Switzerland to South Carolina. Some of the information from our grandfather's one page family history were confirmed by the book. His mother's maiden name had been CROUCH, her father had served in and lost an arm in the Civil War, and her mother's maiden name had been McGee. We are working on documenting the connections.

We have recently found several members of the LONG family and a Mamie CROUCH LONG in the Bethel Cemetery at Mayo, Lafeyette Co., FL with Harvey Monroe and Cornelia Matilda.  Web are predicting that we will find that Mamie was sister of Cornelia.
