CLAYTON
SURNAME
The
ultimate guide to our early CLAYTONS seems to be "Jim Clayton's Sketch".
We would like to thank Jim Clayton for the information as well as Cynthia
Wittig and Sue Dunbar (of the Webster Co. Historical and Genealogical Society)
for access to the information. The early CLAYTONs that I have listed on
this page fit this sketch.
We have two connections to these early CLAYTONs. I am a descendant of brothers
Coleman and Solomon CLAYTON. Coleman's son Robert moved to Hopkins County,
Kentucky with his wife Susan Lucretia TAPP. The area that Robert settled
in would be called Shakerag after the community that they had left in Person
County, North Carolina. My grandmother Ona Ada CLAYTON was born there.
She was the daughter of Jefferson Davis CLAYTON son of John Cobb CLAYTON
son of Robert. Solomon's son Solomon C. CLAYTON Jr. also moved to Hopkins
County. His daughter Frances A. married John Cobb CLAYTON and was the mother
of Jefferson Davis.
