Bob Johnson's Political Commentary Pages
Once in a while I either read a political opinion piece that I find particularly
interesting, or I write something that I think someone out there might
be interested in. Here are just a few of them. Maybe some day I'll have
the time to put more of them on line.

Heard about Section
502 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996? It is part of what the
"censorship" fuss on the internet has been all about. Includes links to
the complete text of Section 502, and to the entire act.

Why have the freshman Republicans in Congress (1995) been getting so much
flak because they refuse to compromise on some issues? Isn't
that what they said they would do if they were elected?

To those of us raised in the "Great Society," etc., the idea that the government
cannot legitimately claim to have any more power or rights than an individual
may seem a little, well... radical. But over 200 years ago some men who
devoutly believed in that concept began a revolt. If you re-read (or read
for the first time, as the case may be) our Constitution
with that concept in mind, you will see its influence, particularly in
the Bill of Rights. But first, start by reading this
article.

Have you heard anyone claim that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
refers to a "collective right", the right of the States to have armed National
Guard units? You should laugh in their face. To find out why,
read
this. (June 1998)
-
Ken Starr's
report to Congress regarding impeachable offenses committed by
Bill Clinton: you can download a zipped copy of the complete set of files,
or you can read it on-line. (11 Sept 98)

Read some Letters to the Editor, some
that I wrote, and some written by others.
