Today was a good day. It was an early day, though. I had to schedule my lesson from 8-10. The weather was good for it. Virtually clear skies. It was a little hazy at one point, but it didn't cause that much of a problem.

We basically headed out northernly, climbed to 2500 ft and did some basic manuevers. We practiced some turns around a point, simulated an emergency landing, and did some S-turns.

Then we headed in and did 6 landings. He showed me a forward slip. That is when you have too much altitude coming in for a landing. You give full left rudder, for instance, and also right aileron; or right rudder and left aileron. This effectively sends the airplane descending quickly tracking sideways but inline with the runway.

I surprised myself with my radio communications today as well. I felt really confident and got some experience as there were a few other aircraft that had to be dealt with during the lesson.

Paul also gave me my assignment for the next lesson. I've to read two chapters out of the text book, but one of them deals with cross-country flights. Thus, I may soon be doing a dual cross-country flight! It is not so much that it will be an exciting flight as it is a big step towards the license.
