Where to Play in the Gainesville, Florida area

Lets face it, darts is an adult sport, almost always played at taverns, pubs, or bars. With the rare exception of a large tournament which might be held at a hotel ballroom or some other venue, your best bet for getting a good game in Gainesville is at one of the following places.

A Word on Directions, or "How to Get There"

To make it easier to give directions, we've established two "starting points" from which directions are given. We're quite aware that some places may be easier to get to by another route, especially if coming from the opposite direction. It is our aim that anyone, especially a newcomer or traveller from out of town, can easily and quickly get to their destination with these directions and the use of a local city map, available at any convenience store. The first point is the intersection of Archer Road (SR-24) and SW 34th Street (SR-121). The second is the intersection of University Ave (SR-26) and W 13th Street (US-441).

Also, for the uninitiated, Gainesville street layout uses the unconventional yet logical APRIL system, that being: Avenues, Places, Roads, and Lanes all run east-west. Streets, Courts, Drives, Terraces, Ways, & everything else runs north-south. Boulevards run diagonally. The origin for the quadrand is University Avenue and Main Street.

Hogan's Great Sandwiches (13th Street)

2300 NW 13th Street
Albertson's Plaza, Gainesville, FL
(352) 376-6224

Two Steel Boards, no soft tip. Boards located in rear of pub. Both Hogans used to be known as Hogan's Heros, but were forced to change their name by the heirs of Bing Crosby Enterprises because of a TV show that ran in the mid 1960's. They had to change the menu, too, which used to have sandwiches and salads named after characters from the show. So now if you order "Helga all the way," all you'll get is a funny stare. This is the original Hogan's, and is a bit smaller than Millhopper, though food/beverages are of same caliber. A good place to have a great bite to eat, have a beer, and blow off some steam with a friendly game. Note: beware the perpetual liar's poker game at the end of the bar.

No regularly scheduled leagues or tournaments.

How to get there: From the intersection of University Avenue (SR-26) and W 13th Street (US-441), proceed north to NW 23rd Avenue. Take the next right into Albertson's Plaza, Hogan's is next to the supermarket.

Drink specials all week long, Porpoise has a full restaurant menu which is quite varied and good. Full liquor bar front and back. Currently undergoing renovations due to the acquisition of the game arcade which was previously next door.
