Liquid Light 28

People have compared Liquid Light 28 to the likes of Jesus Lizard and Lubricated Goat. I guess that might put them a in box with a lot of those AmRep bands. I don't agree. They do stand alone in Fredericton and therefore, some see them as weird, or too strange. Name calling aside, LL28 are original and stand out where ever they play. Read this interview and judge them yourself. I think that they are one of the more powerful bands I've seen live and you all should experience a little Liquid Light 28 in your boring lives!
Let's start with the obvious. You've been together for 3 years now?
john: Almost three but with different members.
Why, only now, have you decided to record?
john: We recorded last year but we didn't do anything with it.
andrew: It's really, really bad!
marc: It sucks!
john: The way we're playing now, we've only been doing for about a year and a half or maybe 8 months
What do you mean, the way you're playing now?
trip: The whole style thing
How much stuff did you record?
john: 17 songs
Now, do you plan on spreading these songs between two releases?
john: Eventually
Won't you be bord with them?
john: I already am. Some of them, I was bored with to begin with.
trip: After recording this long, you do get bored of them, yes.
john: The songs that seem to be our best songs, or the songs that we'll never get sick of; we will never get bored with them.
matte: We've been doing this cover of "Misty" for so long now...(laughter)
Have you checked out any compilations to do?
john: Well, that's one reason we recorded so many songs. We could get the first tape out and then figure out what will go for another tape and then maybe compilations or whatever. We found out about a thing today, that might get us two songs done for free. If that goes over, then that will be a 7".
Really?
john: We don't know any details on that yet. We just know that someone offered.
OK, each of you give me one band that you enjoy.
john: Velvet Underground
mark: Nine Inch Nails
andrew: Jamiroquoi
matte: Rheostatics
trip: Sonic Youth
john: Now everyone is going to think that you listened to Sonic Youth forever and that's why you play the way you do.
trip: They will.
matte: Sonic Youth is cool!
john: Well yeah, but that's got nothing to do with the way he plays.
matte: Oh yeah.
trip: Now it does. (laughter)
You aren't considered a punk band in the sense that ...
john: Give me the definition of punk. I don't really consider Greenday to be punk.
People say that LL28 is a noise core band or an art fag band. (tons of laughter this time) Does this have a bad effect on you guys?
john: We're "Art Punk"!
andrew: Now that's cool!
matte: I kinda like "Geek Rock"!
john: Art core! We're the artsy fag band in this city.
Does that piss you off?
john: Most people who would say stuff like that are the people who just go to shows to get drunk and yell at the band. They're fun to laugh at but I would never take them seriously. If that's really their opinion, then we can't change that. Sometimes I have to comfort Trip when it gets to him.
matte: We're not fags.
What do enjoy most about Fredericton?
andrew: I like the fact that people don't run away when we play anymore.< br> marc: I don't like the audience
john: I generally like the crowd. The people in F'ton seem to be over pampered and nothing is good enough. I don't know.
marc: They won't go to see local bands unless someone from out of town is headlining.
john: Better bands would have to be Catch 23 and Sciolism. They are both lots of fun.
matte: Didn't we do this before?
trip: Yes we did, CHSR
john: You're just repeating what you have memorized!
marc: I never said that before in my life! (even more laughter)
What Fredericton band do each of you enjoy the most?
john: Catch-23
marc: Alderknot
andrew: Catch-23
matte: Exploding Meet
trip: Catch-23
john: We're just Catch-23 fans ... we're groupies.
Do you have any plans to play outside F'ton soon?
andrew: I wanna play St. John again.
trip: Me too.
john: We're trying to get some small shows, maybe with Alderknot. I haven't spoken to them yet. And also, we are going to be an art exhibit at the "OO Galery" in Halifax.
You are going to play at an art exhibit or you are going to be an art exhibit?
john: We're going to be an art exhibit!
marc: I've always been art! I've just been trying to convince everyont that I am.
john: We just get to stand there and play for three days.
I know that you guys have lots of side-projects.
andrew: Mark's the king! He plays in a million bands!
Do all these other bands take away from LL28?
andrew: It adds! It's just good practice.
john: In Liquid Light, we all write off each other. Sometimes it annoys the hell out of us, but that the way we do it. It's fun because it's us.
