WWW Limitations

Virtually all of the information provided by the AFN is available through the AFN WWW server. But some services like electronic mail and password-changes are not.

In general, any AFN service that requires the user to be authenticated probably won't be available through the WWW server. This is because the AFN WWW server, like all WWW/Gopher/WAIS servers, is "anonymous" -- and it's the anonymity that makes these services so useful. In other words, these services are useful because you don't have to log in (authenticate) to use them.

There will be some exceptions, of course, but most AFN services will never be available through the WWW server. Of these missing services, some will be missing because we haven't implemented WWW gateways to these services and others simply because they can't be implemented with a WWW server.

So please bear with us and enjoy the Alachua Freenet!
