Policy for Information Providers

Information providers agree:
  1. That the information presented will not contain profane or vulgar language and that all such language will be deleted or changed.

  2. That no programs or other information which are unlawfully obtained or the presentation of which is illegal may be presented.

  3. That no obscene or pornographic information may be presented.

  4. That no information which invades the privacy of another may be presented.

  5. That no advertising is permitted. Businesses are encouraged to become information providers for the purpose of providing information, discussion and advice that is of a general nature and does not endorse or advocate the purchase of any particular product or service sold by the provider.

For example, assume a gourmet store became an information provider of cooking information. A menu item explaining the different types of kitchen knives and their maintenance would be appropriate so long as the discussion were general and did not mention brand names.

An information providers menu may indicate the identity of the information provider. For example, a menu relating to car repairs (labeled "Automobile Repair" and not the business' name) may state at the bottom: This menu is maintained by XYZ Automotive, Inc., contact abc@afn.org with any comments or corrections." Not-for-profit information providers (but not for-profit businesses) may provide descriptions of and other information relating to their organizations including a menu item indicating who to contact for further information.
