Disk Usage Policy

Disk Usage Policy

Currently, Alachua Freenet does not have any quota limitation for accounts in regards to disk usage. However, AFN does have a limited storage capacity available and it is STRONGLY recommended to not store large files in your account for longer than it takes to download them.

In the interest of keeping the disks from filling up, an automated daemon runs once a week that looks for any files older than three days that end with a .zip, .exe, .hqx, or .gif extension and deletes them. Three days is more than enough time to download such files, and they do not need to be stored on AFN indefinately. Files under public_html directories are ignored, however, regardless of age and/or extension.

NOTE: Regular, periodic totalling of disk usage is done for all AFN accounts and accounts in the excessive range (generally over 4-5 Megabytes) may have unnecessary files deleted if deemed to have been residing on-line for too long, or to be of a frivolous and pointless nature. There will be no warning of these purges, as the disk usage policy has already been clearly indicated.

Future changes to the disk usage policy, including the implimenting of hard quota limits, is under consideration and may be executed if disk space problems become too severe. In the interests of preventing this, PLEASE delete any files you do not absolutely need on-line. This includes Email as well.
