QUERIES for the Eleventh Month: SELF-DISCIPLINE

• Do you keep to simplicity and moderation in your speech, your manner of living and your pursuit of business or vocation?
• Are you careful to keep your business and your outward activities from absorbing time and energy that should be given to spiritual growth and the service of your religious society?
• Are you punctual in keeping promises, just in payment of debts and honorable in all your dealings?
• Do you act responsibly concerning intoxicants, tobacco, and drugs, recognizing their potential danger to individuals and to society?

CALENDAR NOTES

• Potluck lunch followed by birthday cake and gifts to the building fund for our new meetinghouse.
• Thanksgiving and fellowship among SEYM Friends and friends in the beautiful, natural environment of Wekiwa Springs. See flyer on kitchen bulletin board for details.
• Dorothy Granada will be in Gainesville on December 8, her 71st Birthday. Tim Fogarty is working with Campus Ministry to provide a forum for her to share her experiences with us. The Meeting proposed a potluck dinner. We'll have to wait to see. Details next newsletter.
• At the meetinghouse for our annual Yuletide celebration of food, carols and fun for all.

MEETING NEWS

• Welcome back to our sojourners, Judy Shea and the McGonagles, Dave and Liz. We have missed you.
• Welcome to new attenders Martin Barker, Linda Brown and her children, Elizabeth and Harrison. We are pleased to have you with us.
  
  
• The Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors is appealing for help in the current political crises. They report a flood of appeals for their help and support: "They may be young women and men tricked into the military who are frightened about being sent into a war they do not understand. They may be Conscientious Objectors, either within or without of the military. They may be community activists needing support against the rising tide of jingoism. They may be worried parents scared of what could happen to their children. They may be young people bewildered and confused by the false promises of recruiters and the current war frenzy." The CCCO is appealing for both financial and volunteer support at this time. Their letter is on the bulletin board in the kitchen for further information. Their E-Mail address is info@objector.org

  The Community Coalition Against War And Terrorism was attended by Dick Beardsley Monday evening. He reports that the meeting was well organized and interesting. It included an informational segment, discussion and planning for action. Attending were student groups, faith-based groups such as Pax Christi and Mennonites, and the Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice. The meetings will be held each Monday evening at 7 p.m. at St Francis House. Dick plans to continue his attendance. Thank you, Yasha Toda for telling us about it.
