QUERIES for the Second Month: MINISTRY

CALENDAR NOTES

MEETING NEWS

Thanks to Phil Klein and Phil Buskirk, auctioneers extraordinaire. We made a record $500 plus, for the Guatemalan Scholarship Fund and had a rousing good time doing it. At last month's forum, Dr. Allan Burns of U of F told us of the low level of education among the Mayans, especially the women. The Guatemalan Scholarship Committee has increased their staff recently which will permit them to personally deliver the checks.

We hold Jean Larsen in the LIGHT as she grieves the recent death of her father.

Julia Porter and Thaddeus Papke have requested marriage under the care of the Meeting.

Welcome back to our snowbirds, Judy Shea and Helen Westie.

Please hold Bob Ivey in the LIGHT as he recovers.

We were saddened to hear that James Clark Gillespie died on Jan 23rd in Ocala. We're holding the family in the LIGHT. He is survived by his mother, Sally, and sister, Emily. A Quaker Memorial Service will be held in the spring.

Towards a new meetinghouse:

Potluck Sunday: Presented by the Building Committee will be two brief presentations, one at 1:00-1:15 pm by Reuben Keppel on possible nature-related uses of the Meeting land and one at 1:15-1:30 pm by Jean Chalmers on the possibility of a Quaker school. Then we will have break-out sessions where groups will use pre-cut images of potential rooms in a variety of shapes and sizes (and specified square footage) to try to pull together a floor plan for a basic meetinghouse, with the idea that auxiliary uses will be in a separate building.

Each breakout group will get a packet of the building plans submitted so far, a specifications sheet by Morrie Trimmer with particulars for one method of construction and a dollars-per- square-foot estimate. This will give us an idea of what our proposed plans would cost to build. After the breakout sessions we will attempt to meld our visions into a recommendation to present to the Meeting for Business. It promises to be an exciting day. Jean Larson , Clerk of Building Committee.
