Sicilian Buttercups originated from the Island of Sicily and are best known for their cup shaped comb. Their comb forms a complete circle with medium sized regular points. They were first imported into America in 1835, however it was not until 1892 that a breedable pair was imported. Most of the American stock comes from the latter.

Sicilian Buttercups are a non-broody, white egg laying bird. Their plumage is golden colored. The male and female have differing color patterns. It was first admitted to the standard in 1918.
