Alan Davis
I consider Alan Davis on of the most talented artists working in
comic books today. He's well-deserving of praise for his graceful
figurework as well as for his impeccable storytelling. You can
see the influence of Neal Adams in his draftsmanship, and there is
a bit of a John Byrne influence in his faces and figures. In
the end however, Alan has a gorgeous style which is all his own.
There are few artists working on a regular basis today which can match
his unbelievable work. Not only is Alan one of the finest artists
working, but he is also a comic book writer of the finest caliber as
well! For some examples of his writing, check out his work on
ClanDestine and Excalibur from Marvel Comics
and JLA: The Nail from DC Comics.
- Batman: Year Two: This is
either an unpublished pinup or promotional illustration for the
Batman: Year Two series or trade paperback collection. It's
a dark Batman that not only wields the weapon that killed his parents but
who has even teamed up with his parents' murderer! The totally
dark visage of the Dark Knight reflects his plunge into darkness.

- ClanDestine #6 p.22:
ClanDestine #1-8 was a terrific superhero comic series
by one of the best writer-artists in the business today. The stories
were intriguing, suspenseful, and most importantly they were a lot of
fun! Spidey appeared on this splash page after having saved two
of the clan's kid heroes on a NYC street. Nowadays (read:
post-McFarlane) you don't get to see Spidey drawn by too many
"clean" artists like Alan Davis. Spidey's appearance in
ClanDestine was a real treat. (Inks: Mark Farmer)
- Excalibur poster: This
poster was used to herald Alan's very welcome return to Excalibur
after a prolonged absence from the book. He took over the writing
chores as well and introduced a few new characters. He hinted at
these new additions to the cast by putting them in silhouette behind
the Excalibur team. This is a real nice and "sweet" piece by Alan.
