THE TWO CARDINAL QUALITIES OF RADICAL PAGANISM


1.  BELIEF IN THE ULTIMATE MANIFESTATION OF THE REDE

The Rede (or Wiccan Rede) states:  "If it harm none, do as you will."

We believe The Rede is the ultimate human ethical standard, allowing for
both the restriction against non-defensive, involuntary physical injury
and violence, and the acknowledgement of full freedom and human rights. 

The Rede (or Wiccan Rede) is the deal that we make with the universe: 
that if we do no involuntary physical injury or violence, we may then act,
behave, practice, and believe exactly as we wish, with no interference. 
Violence or conflict resolution is the only juncture in which Law is a
valid arbiter. 

We believe in the unqualified manifestation of The Rede:  unrestricted
expression of personal will and freedom of choice within the confines of
non-harm regardless of social controversiality. 

The Rede is the guiding spiritual and physical ethic of all Radical
Pagans.  If a Radical Pagan violates The Rede, s/he automatically becomes
a former Radical Pagan.

Radical Pagans will stand in defense of each other and all Pagans who are
the subjects of discrimination or harassment.  We are the non-violent
warrior-scholars of Paganism.  

We also believe that people are more important than ideas or ideals.


2.  DISCIPLINED ACTIVISM

We don't just believe in the ultimate manifestation of The Rede, we
actively promote and defend it.  

There are those who, meeting no resistance, will consciously or
unconsciously violate the rights and freedoms of Pagans and ignore the
Constitutional protections of the First Amendment.  We stand ready to
calmly but firmly defend our beliefs and practices, even to imprisonment
if absolutely necessary, within the disciplined confines of The Rede, and
to correct instances of misunderstanding, misinformation, or libel.

We also act as advocates and apologists, through media, writing, speaking,
and so on, for Pagan and Radical Pagan ideas, beliefs, and practices,
educating all who request understanding and representing our faith with
honor, humility, and compassion. 

We do no activism that will directly and involuntarily injure a person
physically, nor beyond our personal and individual abilities. 

Personal discipline is integral.  When faced with hostility, Radical
Pagans need the ability to remain calm, respectful, but firm and
committed.  A high educational and/or maturity level is crucial. 

And always we are in the service of the Lord and Lady.
